Energy & environment

The Krimmler Tauernhaus is situated in an ecologically precious and very sparsely populated area. We are very conscious of this extraordinary situation which demands a great deal of empathy for the sensitive natural landscape. This is why we try to make careful use of the natural resources and to protect the environment in the Krimml Achen Valley.

Therefore, we have developed and implemented an energy strategy for the Krimmler Tauernhaus to protect the habitat of the Krimml Achen Valley for the long term.

Small hydroelectric power station

There is a long tradition of using hydroelectric power in the Krimmler Tauernhaus. As long ago as 1919, National Assembly member Simon Geisler installed a small power station which provided the mountain shelter with electricity. We too are committed to hydroelectric power because it represents a very environmentally friendly form of energy production. For this reason we have invested in a new off-grid system which has been co-financed by the EUROPEAN UNION’s European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the Regional Competitiveness programme and guarantees a more than adequate power supply for the Krimmler Tauernhaus.

Sewage treatment plant

In 2005 we built a new sewage treatment plant which naturally and biologically purifies waste water from the kitchen, toilets and showers and thus does not pollute the water of the Krimml Ache. The plant itself has been harmoniously integrated into the landscape and ensures an ecological disposal of waste water from the Krimmler Tauernhaus.

Waste separation

Waste separation is considered to be economically and ecologically sensible at the Krimmler Tauernhaus. This is why paper, metal and glass as well as synthetic packaging are collected separately so that they can be recycled.
